Answer 3 for PHI 413 How does your own definition of spiritual care compare with the Christian definition of spiritual care?

The Christian defination of spiritual care is define in out textbook as, “The Judeo-Christian theological basis for spiritual care is grounded on the imago Dei concept that humanity is created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26–27; 9:6). This premise of showing respect, compassion, dignity, and empathy to others is supported by the scriptural premise of the two great commandments found in the New Testament.”(Evans, 2022). This definition is in alignment with my own definition of how we demonstrate spiritual care, however, I believe that there are other ways to show this as well. I believe that all humans have some sort of spiritual nature to them, based on their own beliefs, actions, experiences, and dreams. As healthcare workers, it is not our job to impose our beliefs on our patients but rather to help individuals achieve their spiritual care during times of sickness and need. While most of our job is focus on the physical and mental tasks, in order to provide holistic care to our patients we must dive deeper. There are times when meeting a patient’s spiritual needs means joining them in their prayers, listening to their beliefs, calling family members for them, and seeking the best possible resource for them such as the chaplain or the social worker.
